The solution for all- The Lottery!

December 4th, 2008 at 10:30 pm

I know everyone in financial trouble thinks of the lottery as the solution to all, if not almost all of our financial problems.
I wished I could win something, but it appears that chances of getting something are very slim.

I prefer so use my $1.00 to pay down my credit card. One thing is for sure, it can at least cover one dollar of interest, verses taking a chance at hitting it big.

Don't lose hope and good luck with your debt reduction.

Don't play the lottery often.
A dollar here and there through the year won't do any harm, but don't expect it to be the solution that takes care of it all.

Unfortunately, the people I know personally that play the lottery are the least able to afford to squander money. The other day a girl I work with that recently got her car repossessed won 150.00. I bet she took at least 20.00 of that and bought more tickets. Sad.

As long as you're not in debt and you are managing your finances, playing the lottery isn't a bad thing unless you play it all the time and can't sleep if you would forget to play one day.

I play occassionally. My new rule for 2009 is that for every dollar that I play, I'm going to set aside the same amount in savings just to see how much is being spent on this.

Ms. Pearl is absolutely right. Most lottery tickets are sold to the poor. I read a stat a while ago that the average income of lottery ticket buyers is under $25,000. Unfortunately, some folks feel that their only way out of poverty is to hit the jackpot. Of course, if they would stop spending $5/day or more on tickets and stop spending $6/day for a pack of cigarettes and stop spending $25/week or more on beer, they'd get out of poverty a lot quicker (and healthier).
